Contact

Open Waters is run by Open Water Software, LLC, a small operation rather than a support department. Mail gets read and answered; picking the right place below just gets you an answer faster.

Email

hello@openwaters.io reaches us for anything: licensing questions, a higher rate limit for a production application, a commercial AIS tier, data or partnership enquiries, press, or anything about the privacy page.

Bugs and feature requests

These belong in the issue tracker of the project they concern, on GitHub, where they are public and get fixed in the open. A wrong tide prediction goes to the tide engine or the station database, a chart rendering problem to the chart style, and a stream that drops out to the AIS server. If you are not sure which, open it anywhere or email us and we will move it.

A wrong prediction is much easier to fix with the station id, the time you asked about, and what you expected instead.

Questions and conversation

Discord is the place for questions that are not yet bugs, for showing what you built, and for talking through an approach before you write it. Contributing a receiver to the AIS network, or depth soundings from your own instruments, usually starts as a conversation there.

Not for navigation

Nothing published here is fit for navigation, and no answer over email changes that. Official charts and tide tables from your hydrographic office remain the reference on the water. If you have found a discrepancy between an Open Waters prediction and an official one, that is worth reporting, and worth trusting the official one in the meantime.
