Outlined windmills and towers on the chart, and lighter zoomed-out land
Seamap 0.3.2
Release Charts
More windmills, towers, and gasometers now show up as landmarks, and zoomed-out land tiles are a fraction of their old size, so charts of rocky coasts like Scandinavia no longer run iPads out of memory. Weekly chart updates are running again after three missed weeks.
Upgrade
No layer ids or icons change. If you host your own tiles, rebuild them when you update the style. Older tiles still carry unnamed towers, and one can outrank a named landmark in the same cell and hide its name.
Changes
- Towers, windmills, and gasometers mapped in OpenStreetMap as building outlines appear as landmarks, the same as ones mapped as a single point. That covers more than half the windmills in OSM. Plain towers with no name, function, or light are left out, so unnamed communication masts no longer use up space a named landmark needs. #106
- At low zoom, windmills and other unlit structures near a lighthouse no longer take on the lighthouse's range and crowd out radar towers and other landmarks. #104
- Zoomed-out land tiles leave out islands and ponds smaller than a pixel. The z4 tile over Scandinavia goes from 8,624 rings to 149, which fixes MapLibre Native running out of memory on a 3 GB iPad. Small islets still show at the highest zoom. #99
- The weekly planet build works again after Hetzner removed an API it depended on. #100
For developers
- The
landmarkslayer draws only from points. #106 @maplibre/maplibre-gl-style-specis now^26.2.1. The style uses it for types only. #58- The npm package is now MIT licensed, so closed-source apps can use it too. The chart symbols in the sprite sheet keep their own terms, listed in
sprites/PROVENANCE.md. The hosted tiles, style, and sprites stay CC BY. #107
